Play "Darkfall Unholy Wars" for Free Now!

Posted on 01:22 by nat
To celebrate their one year anniversary, the team behind Darkfall Unholy Wars announced on their forums yesterday that players will now have the ability to play it for free.
The game is sold at 19.95 EURO so it makes it a good opportunity for new players to demo the game first before purchasing it.

The detailed announcement of the team concerning this matter can be seen below.
This week marks the one year anniversary for Darkfall Unholy Wars. To celebrate, we’ve organized an extended party weekend between May 1st and May 5th. During this time everyone’s invited to play Darkfall Unholy Wars for free and to participate in Anniversary activities – whether you’re a returning player or someone who has never tried it before. Details can be found below along with our Anniversary Video.
The Year in Review
It has been an exciting year, full of challenges to stay true to our vision for Darkfall Unholy Wars as a leading sandbox PvP MMOPRG featuring the most epic massive battles. After a few setbacks we’re back on track and committed on delivering features and content true to the vision:
Player and Clan Markets reinforced our player driven economy. The new Duel System was celebrated by the first of many Official Tournaments. The new Territory Control System has clans competing for political and strategic power.
Spanning 51 content patches over the past year we’ve given our players features, systems, and content to be excited about, including new roles and schools to experience, new dungeons to explore, new ships to maneuver, environmental enhancements to immerse themselves in the world and much more.
We are committed to following up with regular content patches featuring important additions, including the new Custom Role System, the Alignment System and Siege Engines.
Our latest patch
Keeping on course in our current patch we’ve implemented Armor Dyes and the new Mentor System:
The Mentor System is designed to help new players make it through the first few hours of Darkfall Unholy Wars by pairing them up with an experienced veteran. Mentors are rewarded through prowess points and the opportunity to recruit new talent ahead of the competition. The game benefits from the new blood.
Armor Dyes help create a distinguished look for your characters, and for clans to sport their own team colors in battles. There are 30 different colors to choose from. More will be added. For more details on armor dyes, click here.
We invite you to test the new content and to bring your friends using the three buddy keys that you are entitled to with your active subscription. Here are the details how.
Anniversary Celebration Details
In the next few days we have planned several fun activities for our community: Return or try out Darkfall Unholy Wars for free between May 1st and May 5th
To get you started, we will gift you with Double Prowess points during the whole event. Moreover, we have arranged a series of dynamic happenings that will start with a Treasure Hunt event and will continue with GM controlled monsters in various locations. And should you like to have a constant daily reminder of Darkfall Unholy Wars on your PC when you are not roaming the lands of Agon, we have prepared a bundle of artwork images that you can use as a desktop.
Last but not least, check out our anniversary video, produced in cooperation with our clans, which captures the essence of Darkfall Unholy Wars: massive battles and sieges between some of the best competitive gamers. The winning clan of the video contest will be announced on Friday, May 2. You can watch it here.

NOTE: Accessories have their own slot; to unlock that, you have to enhance your hero.

NOTE: You can actually put Accessories to the Armor slot but hear this out: NEVER DO IT. You will regret exchanging that useful armor for a minuscule stat.

ABOUT -DEXTERTITY
People may be confused since -Dex prolongs disables and lessens the attacks every wave, but it has some good drawbacks as well, particularly Immune heroes (Both damage and spell).

Officer King has the same dex as others, uses Provoke and after everyone blows up all their skills, normal hits proceed. Around 5-6 turns, King's 2 turns finish and his provoke expires, giving him the burden of having to cast it again.

Officer King has less dex than the others, uses Provoke and and it takes 10-11 turns for his Provoke to expire.

Heroes with Immune and Provoke (Officer King, Assassin King, Asmodeus, Lee, Robin, David) are the perfect examples who need this negative stat.

ABOUT -HEALTH
Some people may throw it away since it makes heroes easier to kill and be focused by heroes, but it can also serve as a bait.

Asmodeus has (let's say) 200 health left but everyone else has 500+, Rina has just activated +Focus and what are you going to do? Activate the Immune shield and watch as how the enemy tries their hard just to kill Asmodeus.

Heroes with Immune Damage (Belphegor, Asmodeus, Lee, Kibi, Robin) are the must-havers of this negative stat.

ABOUT -FOCUS
Who in their right minds would take this? AoE heroes of course!

Why worry about not being able to focus one enemy when you can focus all of them?

Heroes with AoE Damage (Sophia, Isis, Ted, Toby, Sally) may take this item as a part-timer.

ABOUT -CRIT AND -DAMAGE
Heroes whose job isn't to deal damage but any other important stuff (Healers and non-damage Tankers) could take this item.

COMMON HERO MISCONCEPTIONS (TO BE UPDATED)

BELPHEGOR, CRIT OR FOCUS?
A dilemma about Belphegor is that, "his AoE says Crit, but his Immune says Counter" so which will you take, you may take both, but their chances will be marginal/borderline unreliable.

His Burning Prison causes blind, and it prevents them from attacking Belphegor and reduce their total damage output, it makes Counter wasted.

But let's not forget about Skill Damage and Spell Immune, they can still attack Belphegor even after his AoE, so it really needs a consideration. You may think "Counter it is" because of that but Belphegor has naturally high Counter rate compared to other 6*.
Answer = CRIT/CRIT

RINA, CRIT OR FOCUS?
She has the highes AD skill (Without Health Cost) that deals 240% damage; hurts, right? But wait, there's more: it can serve as a pseudo-debuff "Focus" (Known as target) to enemies, so Boldpus, prepare your anus.

Adding Crit/Crit to Rina can one-shot enemies but, unless you have another +Focus hero, it will lead you to ruin when Rina hits a Damage Immune enemy/Boldpus Tentacle.

Crit/Focus is an orthodox but it's only good in paper. It becomes downright unreliable and the low chances each are marginal/nearly useless.

Focus can help you pick on enemy with low HP and finish it, especially in dungeons. If the enemy has Purge (Lots of Scarecrows are in DG 72+) it can help you pick that Healer.
Answer = FOCUS/FOCUS

BRIAN, DEX OR CRIT
Similar to Agnid, Brian has AoE skill and high innate Dex. Dex can help Brian in Bounty Hunt or if the enemy debuffed him but since he has already high dex, unless the enemy has higher dex, the additional dexterity would only be redundant to Brian (Unless you want him attacking 3 times in a row)

Brian's single target skill deals 2 per AD. If equipped with Crit, it can one-shot dem healers without the need of attacking 2-5 times and prolonging the battle.

SO FINISH THE ENEMY QUICKLY.
Answer = CRIT/CRIT
